What to Expect When You Visit Lay Lake Church of Christ
Courtesy and Kindness
When you visit the Lay Lake Church of Christ, you will be greeted with courtesy and kindness. You’ll be welcomed into an atmosphere where our only expectation for you, as a visitor, is that you feel truly welcome.
A Place of Reverent Worship
You will see how deeply we value understanding the Word of God and His Bible. Our worship is centered on God rather than entertainment. Like the Christians of the first century, we lift our voices together in the singing of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19.) The words of our songs are clear and meaningful (1 Corinthians 14:15), allowing everyone to sing with understanding. God has commanded that the sincere praise of His people come from the heart (Colossians 3:16), and that is our desire each time we worship together.
Guided by God’s Word
You will notice that the Bible is our only textbook, and it is continually referenced in both our classes and sermons. We place special emphasis on the portion of Scripture known as the New Testament (2 Timothy 3:16–17; Romans 1:16.) You will never be asked to accept what someone says about the Bible—rather, we encourage you to read and study it for yourself to see “whether those things are so” (Acts 17:11.) During our services, no one in the audience will be singled out or embarrassed in any way. There are no public demonstrations or personal testimonies required. You are welcome to quietly observe, listen, and study the things you see and hear (1 Corinthians 14:40.)
The Gospel Message
You will hear that obedience to the will of Christ is essential to salvation. This includes faith in Christ as taught in the gospel (Romans 10:17), repentance (Luke 24:47), confession of faith in Christ (Romans 10:9–10), and baptism for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). If someone in the audience responds to the Lord’s invitation, you will witness their baptism into Christ. In a simple and beautiful likeness to the burial of Jesus, they will be immersed in water and raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3–4).
You Are Invited
We invite you to visit and worship with us soon. Bring your Bible, an open heart, and a desire to learn more about God’s Word. We look forward to meeting you!
